Information:
Banavie
Banavie is a pleasant village
by the
Caledonian Canal
about 3
miles from
Fort William
town
centre. The village is the
location of Chase The Wild
Goose Hostel and the Moorings
Hotel.
The scenery
around Banavie is
exceptional with
Ben
Nevis dominant in
the skyline. The
Caledonian
Canal
passes through
the village at Neptune's
Staircase, which is a set
of lock gates that raise
vessels into Banavie
upper canal area which
has a long pontoon for
visiting boats and
yachts.
The
Great Glen
Way
walk passes
through the village as
walkers take the old
tow-path route along the
canal bank to
Gairlochy.
There is a spacious free car
park at Banavie and a
children's play area. A short
walk from the car park leads to
the Canal lock gates, where one
can spend time watching vessels
navigate the lock gates. It's a
nice walk or cycle from Banavie
into
Fort
William
via Caol
village, or visa
versa.
